We have several different types of Mackerel, Spotty, School and Spanish being the top of the list. These fish are voracious eaters, fighters and travel in schools, also a top table fish favoured by many Gold Coast fisherman. These are a warm water fish and usually frequent our waters from November to June. Victorians have flake with their chips, we use to have Mackerel with our chips before they started using imported stuff. Whole, filleted, steaked or smoked, delicious.

Usually caught in the deeper water off the Gold Coast, you better have your top game on if you hook one of these. A muscular fighting machine. The Asians prize these for Sashimi with a beautiful delicate pink flesh. You will pay premium price at the restaurant for one these. One of our favourite’s. Sashimi, whole, filleted or steaked, just don’t overcook it.
Trag Jew Fishing Gold Coast. Teraglin Jewfish, Atractoscion Aquidens
Caught on our offshore reefs, this is a top-quality table fish, a smaller cousin to our large Jewfish, these fish require a bit of finesse to catch as they are not usually a big hitter, you will feel a light tap on your line, then you strike, winding with a constant pressure is the best way to land these fish, same as most of our offshore species. Excellent whole or filleted, a nice delicate flavour.
Mahi Mahi Fishing Gold Coast. Mahi Mahi, Pompano Mahi Mahi
Dolphin Fish or Dorado, everyone wants to catch one of these great fighting fish, flashing blue, yellow and green, these guys will give you a fight for your money. Caught on lures, livebait, floating pilchards or squid, they will leap out of the water or tail dance. These fish are very fast growing and are mostly around in summer. Cooked on the Barbecue, never to be forgotten.

With several species calling the Gold Coast home, Black Marlin are our most common species, these are now being caught all year round in the deeper water and making themselves known in the shallower water when the water temperature warms up. These fish range from about 20 kilos to 5 or 600 kilos. Caught mostly on Lures, these guys will take live bait and even whole Pilchards on a floater. You won’t need the gym after landing one of these, we have specialist gear onboard to catch these Herculean fish.
