Meet Your Captain

I’m Drewe, skipper of Top Gear Fishing Charters.

Fishing has always been a huge part of my life and over the years it’s grown into a real addiction. I’ve spent countless hours on the water learning how fish behave, where they move, and what it takes to consistently catch them. Time on the ocean builds experience, and experience is what puts fish on the deck.

I’m also a father of three boys, and providing for my family while building something meaningful around the ocean is something I take a lot of pride in. Through my ancestors being native to this land and ocean, I’ve always felt a natural connection to the water.

Running charters allows me to live that every day — chasing fish and sharing the experience with others. Whether you’re an experienced angler or trying fishing for the first time, my goal is simple: give you a great day on the water and the best chance of landing something memorable.

Built for Real Offshore Fishing

Berjun is an award-winning, Australian-built Randell fishing vessel designed for serious offshore fishing on the Gold Coast. Built for strength, safety and stability, she provides a solid and comfortable platform whether we are fishing close reefs or heading wide offshore.

To ensure the best experience for everyone onboard, we limit our trips to a maximum of 12 guests so there is plenty of room to fish comfortably.

• Foam-filled hull for safety, buoyancy and stability
• Caterpillar V8 3208 diesel delivering serious power and reliability
• Large, stable fishing platform with massive deck space

How We Care For Your Catch

Where possible we dispatch fish using the ancient Japanese ikejime method, a technique I learnt during time spent fishing in Japan. This method instantly kills and bleeds the fish, reducing stress and preserving the quality of the flesh so the fish tastes better and keeps longer.

Because we fish with small numbers and handle each fish individually, your catch receives a level of care that simply isn’t possible on large vessels handling bulk catches.

Our fish handling process includes:

  • Dispatching fish using the ikejime method where possible
  • Bleeding fish immediately to preserve flesh quality
  • Handling each fish individually rather than in bulk
  • Cleaning all fish for you after the trip
  • Placing fish straight on ice to maintain prime eating quality

Fishing Should Be for Everyone

 

We believe fishing should be something everyone can enjoy.

While some charter operators are hesitant to take guests with mobility challenges, we take the opposite approach and do our best to accommodate people of all abilities.

Our vessel features a side-opening boarding door, which makes getting on and off the boat much easier and also allows wheelchair access — something many charter boats simply cannot offer.

Over the years we’ve had guests of all abilities come fishing with us and enjoy the experience. With the skipper close by, guests are also welcome to step into the wheelhouse, see how the boat operates and even grab a photo at the helm.

If you have mobility limitations or require assistance, please get in touch beforehand and we’ll do everything we can to make sure you can safely enjoy a day offshore.
